Need a Big Romantic Gesture?

The Tree of Love is on display in our RSY location at 161 E. Ninth Avenue, North York

The Tree of Love is on display in our RSY location at 161 E. Ninth Avenue, North York

Express the enormity of your love for your special someone with a gift that already has a history of true love.

Thirty years ago, on the occasion of their wedding, a York couple received a ficus tree. (Also known as a fig tree, a symbol of fertility, but no pressure, right?) Just like the couple’s love for one another, the tree grew and grew and grew over the past three decades.

Unloading the moving truck when they relocated down South recently, however, they were saddened to discover their beloved tree somehow wasn’t packed in with the rest of their things and therefore, didn’t make the trip. Needing to get it out of their old house immediately, they turned to Re-Source York with an urgent request to accept the tree as a donation. It had, after all, been a “home improvement” item in their home for many years.

Now we recognize not everyone has space for a tree of this size – with pot and soil and such it must weigh about 300 pounds – but SOMEONE must have room for it!

So, in a spirit of this season of all things love, we are extending an opportunity to our customers, friends, and the community at large, to WIN this lovely tree.

It’s as simple as sharing your story of enduring and/or romantic love in 50 to 100 words or so. We will choose from all entries and the winner becomes the new owner of the” Tree of Love.”

Feel free to share your story on our Facebook page, email it to store manager, Nikki (nikki@resourceyork.com), or send via post to RSY Tree of Love, 161 E. Ninth Avenue, York PA 17404.

We look forward to hearing from you!

E-Cycling Info

RSY computerPennsylvania’s E-cycling Law
Beginning January 24, 2013, Pennsylvania’s “Covered Device Recycling Act” (Act 108) will impact how to manage certain electronic devices. Under the Act, “covered devices” include televisions, desktop and laptop computers, computer monitors and computer peripherals (anything that connects to a computer such as a mouse, keyboard, printer, etc.). Starting January 24, 2013 the Act prohibits the acceptance of these materials at all Pennsylvania solid waste disposal facilities and also prohibits residents from placing them at the curb for waste pick-up. Under the Act, waste haulers will NOT pick up electronic devices. York County residents and businesses must now recycle these devices.

In addition to donations of home improvement items for resale, Re-Source York continues to accept electronics for e-cycling at both of its locations during regular business hours.

The 161 E. Ninth Avenue store in North York is open Monday through Friday, 9am to 5pm, Saturday, 9am to 4pm.

The 405 Carlisle Avenue, York store is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 11am to 6pm; Friday and Saturday, 9am to 4pm.

While no cash is offered, donors will receive a charitable tax form for items brought in.

Ladies Night is transforming to Second Saturdays!

2nd Saturday logoLadies Night is transforming to Second Saturdays at Re-Source York.

The second Saturday of each month, our home improvement store at 161 E. Ninth Avenue in North York is opening its workshop (during regular business hours) for a Make & Take project geared toward women! Each class will teach you something new, exciting and fun, as well as skills that can be applied to projects around the house.

Participants also receive a special coupon towards purchases from our amazing inventory!

Each Second Saturday offers two fun learning opportunities:

- helpful home improvement tips and advice for all the nuts and bolts things you need for projects around the house from our regular staff as well as guest DIY guru’s, and

- creative reuse workshops featuring make-and-take projects made by repurposing cool “stuff” you can find in our stores.

Helpful Hints are always free. Workshops require pre-registration* which includes a supplies fee (price based on the project). Space is limited. If there are openings day of event, workshop “at the door” fee is $5 more than pre-registration.

Whether you prefer sparkly diamonds or baseball diamonds, you’re going to find something to love about Second Saturdays at Re-Source York. We look forward to seeing you!

Putting it Together with a Mix of Styles

Of course you can mix styles! Whether you’re going for a full-blown room makeover or adding touches to brighten up your space a little at a time, Re-Source York is the place to find those “just right” items to reflect your unique personality.

In the same way your wardrobe doesn’t have to be all “matchy-matchy,” your living space can benefit from splashes of unexpected color, pattern, texture, and one-of-a-kind WOW pieces.

For example, let’s look at some things we found yesterday in our stores.

At 405 Carlisle Avenue:

Country table and chairs in warm, buttery tones

Homer Laughlin Golden Wheat dinnerware was one of the sets you could collect by buying Duz detergent (it was packed in the boxes) in the early 1950′s.

at 161 E. Ninth Avenue:

Simple Shaker style lines and barn red color of this clock would make a statement hung on the wall.

Mid century hutch has a similarly simple design like the clock and would look great refinished and loaded up with those pretty dishes.

Bring Your Awesome to the Party
