Feast Your Eyes on These

Even though some folks rush directly from Halloween to Christmas, there’s no denying that for many of us, Thanksgiving is a favorite holiday not to be missed. And if you’re planning to have family and friends over for a feast of gratitude, how about first offering thanks that Re-Source York  once again has a couple mid-century modern dining room hutches in stock!

This first one is a beauty, for sure. Plenty of room for display AND storage; you can keep your dinnerware, decorative pieces, linens and bar ware right at your fingertips.  Terrific for entertaining.

The next photo shows a petite version; and isn’t she cute?!  As is or with a fresh coat of paint in a vibrant hue to add even more sassiness, it’s the perfect piece if your space is small but you still want to show off your style.

Study This!

back to schoolClass schedules, club meetings, team practices, saying good-bye to summer (and your parent’s well-stocked fridge) and hello to new people, experiences and opportunities, is what heading off to college is all about. Of course, when you’re not roaming the halls of higher learning or hanging out with friends, you’ll retreat to your temporary home away from home.

Whether living on or off campus, a student’s room is base camp. The place to go to reboot. With so much activity elsewhere, that’s the place to chill out, to catch your breath.  Creating a space that’s all yours during the lean college years comes down to the three C’s: comfy, casual, and let’s face it: Cheap!

That’s where Re-Source York can help. You’ll be amazed what you can find at our 405 Carlisle Avenue store to help set up the ideal student pad: couches, chairs, book shelves, desks, art work, dressers, dinnerware, mugs, end tables, lamps, and more.  We’ve got stuff with character from years of wear, and items with original price tags still attached. And the best part? Price!  Plus, present your valid student ID and receive discounts off our already low prices.

Sounds smart!

Re-Source York Scavenger Hunt

Welcome to the inaugural Re-Source York Scavenger Hunt! While I am serving as an online communications intern for RSY, I’ll be running a weekly series to focus on a group of items found around the two Re-Source locations.

For my first trip around the West York location (located at 405 Carlisle Ave), I decided to focus on art. Everything from original pieces to prints from world-renowned painters are available at the West York location. Although I found many gems, I have selected three works that are sure to pique your interest.

Re-Source Week 1

This piece of geometric art is about a square foot in measurement and is great to put in a hallway around the house or even in a bedroom near a side table. This was actually a gift from a son to a mother. No definitive answer as to whether this is an original piece or not, but I’m leaning towards original. The piece had a short message on the back, it is from a guy named Gregg as a Mother’s Day gift to his mother, and the piece is called “A Grandmother’s Quilt.” Re-Source Week 1

This piece is a rather large print of Picasso’s 1901 painting, “Child with a Dove” from the artist’s Blue Period. Along with the right frame, this could perfectly fit in a dining or living room wall. Although a somber image, it remains one of Picasso’s most prominent Blue Period works, and the original piece was recently sold to Qatar for a stratospheric $76 million.

The final piece is a huge print by artist Walter Brightwell that is sure to catch your eye in the West York Re-Source store. The print is fairly massive; I had to step a couple of feet away to take a photograph of the full piece. Brightwell is known for his realist American works, taking inspiration from classic American parks, lakes, and mountains. The image at Re-Source is of a barn with two horses and their owner. The image is titled, “A Day in June.”

It was tough to narrow down the images to these three, but these are great additions to anyone’s art gallery, and their broad appeal made them stand out.

This isn’t all though, I have a sneak peek for something that is due to be for sale that is an exciting addition to the Re-Source selection! We will post more information soon, but here is an image to whet your curiosity!

Need a Big Romantic Gesture?

The Tree of Love is on display in our RSY location at 161 E. Ninth Avenue, North York

The Tree of Love is on display in our RSY location at 161 E. Ninth Avenue, North York

Express the enormity of your love for your special someone with a gift that already has a history of true love.

Thirty years ago, on the occasion of their wedding, a York couple received a ficus tree. (Also known as a fig tree, a symbol of fertility, but no pressure, right?) Just like the couple’s love for one another, the tree grew and grew and grew over the past three decades.

Unloading the moving truck when they relocated down South recently, however, they were saddened to discover their beloved tree somehow wasn’t packed in with the rest of their things and therefore, didn’t make the trip. Needing to get it out of their old house immediately, they turned to Re-Source York with an urgent request to accept the tree as a donation. It had, after all, been a “home improvement” item in their home for many years.

Now we recognize not everyone has space for a tree of this size – with pot and soil and such it must weigh about 300 pounds – but SOMEONE must have room for it!

So, in a spirit of this season of all things love, we are extending an opportunity to our customers, friends, and the community at large, to WIN this lovely tree.

It’s as simple as sharing your story of enduring and/or romantic love in 50 to 100 words or so. We will choose from all entries and the winner becomes the new owner of the” Tree of Love.”

Feel free to share your story on our Facebook page, email it to store manager, Nikki (nikki@resourceyork.com), or send via post to RSY Tree of Love, 161 E. Ninth Avenue, York PA 17404.

We look forward to hearing from you!

E-Cycling Info

RSY computerPennsylvania’s E-cycling Law
Beginning January 24, 2013, Pennsylvania’s “Covered Device Recycling Act” (Act 108) will impact how to manage certain electronic devices. Under the Act, “covered devices” include televisions, desktop and laptop computers, computer monitors and computer peripherals (anything that connects to a computer such as a mouse, keyboard, printer, etc.). Starting January 24, 2013 the Act prohibits the acceptance of these materials at all Pennsylvania solid waste disposal facilities and also prohibits residents from placing them at the curb for waste pick-up. Under the Act, waste haulers will NOT pick up electronic devices. York County residents and businesses must now recycle these devices.

In addition to donations of home improvement items for resale, Re-Source York continues to accept electronics for e-cycling at both of its locations during regular business hours.

The 161 E. Ninth Avenue store in North York is open Monday through Friday, 9am to 5pm, Saturday, 9am to 4pm.

The 405 Carlisle Avenue, York store is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 11am to 6pm; Friday and Saturday, 9am to 4pm.

While no cash is offered, donors will receive a charitable tax form for items brought in.
